Old Presbyterian Cemetery, Waynesboro VA
|
I first found this place in October 2004, while driving around town taking
pictures. I felt myself drawn here and have been coming back ever
since. I first showed it to Wayne in November of the same year. We
both were saddened and deeply touched by the vandalism and neglect
that have taken their toll on this historic site. During the course of our
investigation and research I found the graves of at least 11 confederate
veterans. This is also the resting place of many of Waynesboro's
founders and early leaders. There is always a feeling of sadness here
and no wonder. In early 1865 part of the Confederate line during the
Battle of Waynesboro ran right through the site.
This cemetery is part of a continuing investigation and I use it as my
groups training ground for several reasons, I know it well, it continues to
draw me back, and there is always some level of paranormal activity
here. The first EVPs I recorded were here. Pictures of orbs and
possible ectoplasm have been taken. There are also cold spots and
area where dowsing rods go quite crazy.
On a sad note the vandalism of this important site continues. On
1/14/07 we conducted our most recent training session. I had not been
here since late October and was appalled at the level of fresh damage
and desecration. Most of the taller markers have now been knocked
over and broken. I dearly hope the perpetrators are haunted by the
spirits of those trying to rest in peace here.
